After it downloads

Four steps, and the third one is the one people ask about.

  1. 01

Open the disk image and drag Human RM to Applications

The window shows the app and an Applications shortcut side by side. Drag it across, then eject the disk image.

  2. 02

    Open it from Applications

A notarized app opens straight away. If macOS ever says it cannot verify the developer, the build did not come from this page — do not open it, and tell us.

  3. 03

Say yes when macOS asks about Messages and Contacts

Those two permissions are the whole mechanism. Messages is what lets your texts go out from your own number; Contacts is what puts each person’s face in front of you before you send. Both are local, and revocable in System Settings.

  4. 04

Sync your Address Book, write it once, send

Groups, custom fields and photographs come across. Then the quick start walks through the first real send.

Questions

What people ask before they install it.

Is the download safe to open?

Yes. Every published build is signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, which means Apple has scanned it and macOS can verify it came from us and has not been altered. The notarization ticket is stapled into the disk image, so it opens even on a Mac that is offline. The SHA-256 checksum on this page lets you confirm the file you received is byte-for-byte the one we published.

What do I need to run it?

A Mac running macOS 11 Big Sur or later, with the Messages app signed in to your iMessage account. To send email as well, a Gmail account you connect from inside the app. Nothing else — there is no account to create with us, because there is no server holding your contacts.

Does macOS ask for permission the first time?

Yes, twice, and both are the point rather than an obstacle. macOS asks whether Human RM may control Messages — that permission is what lets your texts leave from your own number instead of a rented one. It also asks for access to Contacts, so the app can read your groups and show you each person’s photograph. Both are granted locally and can be revoked in System Settings at any time.

Do I need a licence key before I download?

No. Download it, open it, and you get 14 days of the whole product. The licence key arrives on the thank-you page and by email when you buy, and you paste it into the app once.

Does it run on Apple silicon and Intel Macs?

The published build is for Apple silicon — M1 and later. If you are on an Intel Mac, write to support and say so; it is a build target rather than a rewrite, and knowing there is demand is what decides the order.

How do I get updates?

New versions are listed on the releases page with their date, version number and what changed, and the download link on this page always points at the current build. Downloading again and replacing the copy in Applications is the whole update process.
